Frequently asked questions about evacuation chairs
What is an Evacuation Chair?
An evacuation chair is a piece of equipment that can be used to evacuate mobility impaired individuals down or up stairs, during an emergency. The Evac+Chair has been independently tested and proven to be the safest and fastest means of evacuation.
What is an alternative to evacuation chairs?
An alternative to an evacuation chair is evacuation mats – our Evac+Chair ResQMat is designed for horizontal evacuations to safely transfer incapacitated or unconscious individuals and those who have medical conditions, preventing them from being transferred in a seated position. Explore our full range of evacuation products for safe and efficient emergency solutions.
Can evacuation chairs be used by anyone?
You might think that evacuation chairs could be difficult to use, especially if you’ve seen older models or have concerns about staff confidence during an emergency. However, our Evac+Chairs are specifically designed with ease of use in mind. They are lightweight, have ergonomic grips to give users full control during descent.
We also provide comprehensive training courses that are adapted to your workplace; aligned to your needs, delivering guidance and insight into evacuations, the potential challenges and how, by working together, you can overcome them. After a short session, most people are surprised at how quickly they feel comfortable operating the chair.
Despite the simplicity of the chair, training is crucial to ensure operators can act quickly and safely in an emergency. Any delays could significantly impact the evacuation, lead to an injury, or worse, a fatality.
We recommend operators refresh their knowledge and practical skills every 3 years to ensure they can still operate the Evac+Chair not only correctly, but also confidently. It is essential operators act quickly and effectively in an emergency; any delays could impact an entire evacuation or worse, someone’s life.
Alongside refresher training, we also encourage regular practise with the Evac+Chair. It’s easy for skills to fade if you go for long periods of time without using them, hence the importance of keeping them maintained.
